RESUMO

Due to the importance that the Physical Education discipline has in the student training, this study proposes the analysis and evaluation of the development of physical education in the Instituto Federal do Espírito Santo Campus Itapina, in order to identify the cultural and educational meaning of this curricular component, its importance in the institute, mishaps for which ones it crosses over, the boundaries that existed for it was in the condition in which it is, and the possibilities of this subject for integral formation of the student of Ifes Campus Itapina. To achieve this goal, I try to analyze, through a qualitative approach, points that I consider important and essential for understanding the problem, using survey and selection of literature, data collection through interviews, analysis, seeking to assign meaning to data collected. Part of the data that I found: the laws, regulations, rules, opinions, craft, sport bulletins, school records, interviews and photographs. Interviews were semi-structured, performed with five directors of Ifes Campus Itapina during the period from 1985 to 2009, and with five physical education teachers during the period from 1971 to 2009. The interview was used as a resource for analysis of the school reality and the daily practice of the actors in the process, because those moments are building networks of practices and knowledge, braided in multiple contexts. Accumulation of actions and cultural events of everyday life experienced by school students, necessary for their formation, are part of that context. Finally, after data collection and further theoretical and methodological knowledge, it was conducted an evaluation of these indicators in relation to the discipline of Physical Education, such as sport and culture, encompassing the levels which seem to justify its importance and its evolution into Ifes Campus Itapina.
