RESUMO

Health education has been valued as an opportunity to transform the practices of health care, especially for people with chronic diseases such as arterial hypertension. The objective was to analyze the perception of nurse and hypertensive people about health education in groups. Its a descriptive study, with qualitative approach, developed with 11 nurses members of the Family Health Strategy and 55 people with a diagnosis of hypertension, who participated in health education groups in Family Health Centers of the Regional Executive Secretary V. Data collection took place between May and July 2010 by the completion of a semistructured interview. The findings related to participants sociodemographic and clinical profile were analyzed descriptively and the organization of discourse generated by interviews, was through the technique of Discurso do Sujeito Coletivo and in the end, we obtained 23 collective discourses, of which 14 from nurses and nine from user group participants in health education. The analysis of these speeches were based on models of health education addressed in the theoretical framework. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the State University of Ceara, under the Protocol 10030439-7/2010. With regard to nurses, we could verify the frequent participation in lato sensu post-graduation courses in the area of public health and the growing quest for stricto sensu post-graduate studies. lthough the average age of those professionals prove that they are, mostly young people, we could determine a very high rate of inactivity. Most users had 60 or more years old and the vast majority were female. The average length of participation in the groups was 16 months. Regarding the perceptions presented by nurses and users about the ctivities of groups, it was understood that such activities are considered good and also important for health services and especially for users because it supports the development of self-care, increase the quality of life and health promotion. It was possible to perceive in the collective imagination of nurses, the coexistence of two main models of health education: the traditional model, in which prevails the focus on disease and transmission of knowledge to the user, and the radical model, which values the user as co-responsible for building Care and dialogue as an important educational tool. There is a clear perception, on the part of users, of health education groups as well as spaces for socialization and relaxation. Finally, it is suggested the health education group performed as a relevant instrument to be used in order to promote self-care, increase quality of life and, thus, enabling the health promotion of the users of health services, even more than the educational activities carried out individually.
