RESUMO

The present dissertation intends to identify the echoes of the patriarchal society in the literature of feminine authorship, taking Woman in the mirror, by Helena Parente Cunha, as analysis corpus. Under the optics of the Studies of Gender (LAURETIS, 1994), that have brought a new understanding to the unequal appreciation of the papers attributed to women and men in our society, we try to investigate the protagonist path to self-knowledge and a new and liberating identitary definition. And, through new perspectives of reading, coming from the presuppositions of the Feminist Critics (SHOWALTER, 1994), we aim to insert this novel in a tradition of feminine authorship that denounces and questions oppression of women
