RESUMO

The purpose of this work was to study some features related to population ecology of Mecistomela maroinata (Thunberg, 1821) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae: Hispinae) such as: numerical variation though time and interactions with its host plant, Alagoptera arenaria (Palmae), and with an eQQ parasitoid, the wasp Chrysocharodes rotundiventris De Santis, 1990 (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae). The ecology of beetle movement was also studied. This study was undertaken from September, 1988 to December, 1989 at the restinga of Barra de Maricá, Maricá, Rio de Janeiro. Sixty-five palms were maped, marked and checked bimonthly in search of M. marginata adults, which were alI marked, sexed and recaptured. The mating status and number of phoretic wasps were also recorded. This beetle did not show any seasonal variation in numbers and in reproductive activity. M. marginata food recource, A. arenaria leaves, is also avaiable throughout the year ... Note: The complete abstract is available with the full electronic digital thesis or dissertations
