It is an explorer-descriptive research, in which the gathering of information was done through a semi-structured questionnaire. Two hundred and forty truckers were interviewed during the months of April through June of 2007 in the state of Rondonia. The majority of the interviewed truckers live in the states of Rondonia, Parana, and Mato Grosso; they fall into the age range of 30 to 39 years old, (76%) of the interviewed declared themselves as married men, 56.8% said to have not completed high school education, and (75.3%) declared themselves as Catholic practitioners. Among the same group, (75.8%) are employees of corporations, and only (21.3%) are the truck owners. In relation to their income, (42.9%) earn between 5 to 6 minimum wages, (27.5%) of them have an income superior to 6 minimum wages, yet (85%) of the interviewed affirmed to be passionate about their job, because it is usually a family legacy. Among the mentioned difficulties of the job, the following stand out: the precarious condition of the highways (45%), family distance (24.6%), and the deficient fiscal system (14.6%). The rest breaks are usually taken in gas stations or in the trucks (80.6%), and (27.5%) of the truckers work more than 20 consecutive days. In relation to their sexual behavior, 76% of the married men look for sex when they stay more than 20 days away from their families, and (92.2%) said to use condoms to prevent STD/Aids. Among the interviewed, (26.7%) affirmed to have had some kind of STD, being gonorrhea the most common between them (72.5%). In relation to what kind of sex they practice, (57.8%) of them said to practice vaginal sex, reporting modality themselves as the main source of STD/Aids infection. It is concluded that most of the truck drivers have sexual relation during their work trips, and they are not really aware of what kind of risks they are exposed to. It is suggested more informative and instructive campaigns about HIV, and it is also suggested that their promoters dedicate a little more attention concerning truckers health.
