RESUMO
Knowing the past, by living in it, the old people play an important hole saving, maintaining, and reproducing the collective memory and tradition. History and memory are, social processes to preserve and keep the time in humans mend leaving of forgothen and lost, in order to sustain alive the identity feeling. The memory is a tool to build a consistend and coherent of people lives. Rituals, cults and manifestations are moments that we celebrate the collective memory. In these moments, the traditions are recovered, reproduced and then kept alive. In this ocasions, the old people are the main character in the play because they teach and reproduce the culture values en a specific group. In this work we study these rituals looking for the performance of the old people in this play. âFolia de Reisâ, is a religious popular celebration which happens from december 24th to january 6th. It is a celebration that singers and musician walk on the streets and farms of many cities in Brazil, singing and glorifying the Jesus Christ birth. The work was done in the country region of Patos de Minas â Minas Gerais, where we can interview the old people searching for their roles, atittudes, points of view in this ritual.
