Do rapa ao registro: a literatura de cordel como patrimônio cultural do Brasil

RESUMO
RESUMO Em 2018 a literatura de cordel foi registrada como patrimônio imaterial do Brasil pelo Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (Iphan). Este artigo problematiza essa patrimonialização, considerando o registro como resultado de um conjunto de ações mobilizadas por diversos agentes que há mais de um século promovem a difusão desse gênero enquanto forma de expressão cultural do Brasil. A partir da análise de matérias publicadas em jornais, da produção intelectual e do inventário realizado pelo Iphan, este artigo recupera alguns sentidos atribuídos à literatura de cordel ao longo do tempo. Proscrito, considerado uma leitura nefasta por autoridades policiais e parte da elite intelectual, esse gênero foi alvo de ações de repressão, como a proibição de venda e circulação de folhetos. No entanto, as práticas de repressão não arrefeceram sua presença no país através dos autores e leitores que a consideram uma expressão da voz popular, da memória e da identidade nacional.ABSTRACT In 2018 the cordel literature was registered as intangible heritage of Brazil by the Institute of National Historical and Artistic Heritage (Iphan). This article discusses its patrimonialization, considering the record as the result of a set of actions mobilized by several agents that for more than a century have promoted the diffusion of this genre as a form of cultural expression of Brazil. From the analysis published articles in newspapers, intellectual production and the inventory carried out by Iphan, this article recovers some meanings attributed to the cordel literature over time. Proscribed, considered a nefarious reading by police authorities and part of the intellectual elite, this genre was subjected to repression actions, such as the prohibition of sale and circulation of leaflets. However, the practices of repression have not cooled their presence in the country through authors and readers who consider it an expression of popular voice, memory and national identity.
