RESUMO

The taxocenose of snakes of Parque EcolÃgico Quedas do Rio Bonito (PEQRB) was studied from July 2005 to April 2006 The methods were Time Constraint search Opportunistic Sight and Pitfall Traps This study was developed in three native environments of PEQRB montane grassland âcerradoâ and forest Data from other environments have taken part of this study due to it being carried out inside of the PEQRB and neighborhood A survey was applied to the PEQRB`s employees and former employees in order to know their relationship with the local snakes Additionally to the study in the area of PEQRB a survey of snakes was carried through in the county of Lavras and its region and at the Butantan (SÃo Paulo) and the Ezequiel Dias (Belo Horizonte) Institutes to provide support to the study in local level A total of 51 records of snakes in the area of Park and 5.324 snakes in the surveys at Butantan and Ezequiel Dias Institutes The majority of the noted snakes into the PEQRB belongs to Colubridae family It was also observed the presence of large number of snakes from Viperidae family often related to ophidian accidents The most frequently observed species of snakes were Crotalus durissus terrificus Bothrops neuwiedii and Waglerophis merremii The environments that presented a larger numbers of species were the forest and the entrance of PEQRB Among the species found the majority is terrestrial and has nocturnal habits and it feeds on rodents
