RESUMO

The biggest obstacles for the conservation of tropical biodiversity are the lack of information, arising mainly from the lack of inventories of fauna in many areas. Data on distribution and species richness generated in these inventories, can subsidize these conservation plans and management of ecosystem with environmental protection, allowing the establishment of priorities and concentrating efforts on practical actions. These studies have been done particularly to estimates of species richness in highly diverse groups such as the insects. In this context, Odonata has been increasing in recent years as a tool to assess the health of aquatic ecosystems once its wide distribution within the water and it spends long periods in immature stage at the aquatic environment con help in the stability of the community measurement. The Odonata include insects known as dragonflies and generally have about 6 thousand species worldwide. But only 29% of Brazilian territory present data on the wealth of this group. In the state of Mato Grosso do Sul the known fauna of Odonata is about 60 species, with most information on the region of the Pantanal. Unlike other areas of similar importance in the state are poorly known. Serra da Bodoquena is one of the priority areas for conservation in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, it has the largest natural forests in the State, but little explored yet. In the region, studies with Odonata, are to present a work that showed 55 species of the group associated at northern portion of Serra da Bodoquena. The current work shows the composition and species richness of Odonata in four other lotic systems that bathe the Serra da Bodoquena. These data enhance information about regional Odonata and can support future conservation and management works in the area. Thirty-three species of Odonata were collected and related to patterns of geographical distribution and wealth within the rivers sampled. The data were correlated and subjected to the method of estimation of wealth Jackniffe to 2nd order. Seventeen new records were found, especially five new species. The richness of species ranged between times of collection, sample areas and rivers. The results suggest that the Serra da Bodoquena presents a fauna of Odonata species with heterogeneous distribution of different origins. Also suggest that much of the richness of Odonata is influenced by the diversity of microhabitat for the immature
