RESUMO
In the intertidal regions of rocky shores free space for settling is scarce and the sessile animals (such as mussels, colonies of polychaets, sponges and briozoan, among others) and algae already established become additional substratum for the establishment of small animals. The great taxonomic diversity, morphologic types and alimentary habits of these animals, as well as the distinct life habits, can be related to the choice for determined substrata for settling. The present dissertation characterizes the fauna of gammaridean amphipods associated with diverse secondary substrata of rocky shores of three beaches of São Paulo State as well as its occurrences related to the substratum occupied aiming at the detention of patterns in the occupation of these rocky shores. The main substrata analyzed in the three rocky shores were the bivalves Brachidontes solisianus, Isognomon bicolor and Perna perna and the barnacle Tetrclita stalactifera, as well as 25 algae species which sheltered 19 species of gammaridean pertaining to 11 families. Among the amphipods studied the hyalids were the ones that showed the most defined pattern of distribution. They were distributed all along the gradient of height in the transects in different compositions and abundances, but more than two abundant species were not found in a same level in the rocky shores studied. A pattern of occurrence and distribution in relation to the highest zones in direction to the lowest ones was noticed, i.e., Hyale youngi and Parhyale hawaiensis, followed by Hyale media and right below Hyale nigra, most of times occupying different substrata. Hyale youngi and Parhyale hawaiensis were correlated with the substratum offered by sessile organisms, such as B. solisianus, I. bicolor and Phragmatopoma sp. The patterns found suggest that Hyale nigra, despite the ample distribution, occupies preferentially the lowest regions of the rocky shores and is normally associated with algae.
