RESUMO

Due to its particularities, the undertaking of the urban railway transportation systems present in its set of characteristics (extension of the tracks, number of stations, integrated terminals, construction time, number of parties involved, etc) the need for a profound study in order to understand it in its all dimension. It has become all the more evident when there arises the need to identify its external negative factors because of the requirements of the environmental legislation and the increasingly pressure of a society that is concerned with the preservation of the environment. For its turn, it cannot be neglected the importance of the urban and metropolitan trains in the improvement of the quality of life of the population, with the reduction of emission of pollutants, the consumption of fuel, duration of the trips, the number of accidents among others. This work has proposed to study the aspects of environmental management and the number of actions towards the adjustment of a metropolitan transportation system â in this case the Metropolitan Train of Recife Metrorec â to the environmental legislation and the commitment by the organization seeking to reach a certain level of excellence as regards the environment. It also presents a study about the environmental conditions in fase of implantacion of its expansion program especially the link between RodoviÃria-Camaragibe located in the metropolitan area of Recife. The area of the study was chosen because of the diversity in the inherent environmental aspects such as the contour of the railway, that occupies entirely urban areas completely impacted by the anthropic environments and areas of preservation, calling for a study of differentiated environmental impact with the adoption of relieving and compensatory measures. Another reason was the need for complementary studies involving actions in urban regions with interventions in the use and occupation of the soil, segregation of the population by the contour of the railway , displacement of communities and the planning of the metropolitan transportation. The proposals of this work together with the interests of Metrorec, responsible for the construction and operation of the metropolitan train of Recife, in increasing its degree of social and environmental responsibility with the internalization of the directives of the environmental policy to be formalized shortly and by a system of environmental management, in accordance with the administrative and technical directives that have been already adopted
