RESUMO

The speeches about reducing the allowed age to convict criminals - even more in evidence when a teenager commits a crime - reveal the growing interest of society in the rights of adolescents. The discussions about Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente also reveal that human rights are legitimate objects of the social representations (SR). Accordingly, the main objective of this research was to identify the social representations that military police and teenagers have on adolescence and on the rights of adolescents. It was estimated that the social representation of adolescents, in its variable forms of social integration, influence in several different ways these populations rights. To investigate this hypothesis, it was made use of theoretical approach proposed by Doise and cols. (1993). Were part of this research 288 military policemen and 308 teenagers. The results - obtained from specific studies and analysis, indicated an intersection among the way that adults and teenagers think - both have a vision that adolescents carry historical marks of transgressions. The idea of an imminent transgression jeopardizes the portion in human rights designated for adolescents. Many differences in the groups of participants were identified as a result of different socio-professional characteristics (inter-group), ages, sex, religions and school socialization (intra-group). The conclusion suggests that the SR of adolescence and of their rights are anchored in historically constructed concepts about adolescence, in teenager violence and also in the social insertion of the subjects of representation.
