RESUMO

The dynamics of tropical forest have been the subject of scientific research aiming to establish patterns of growth, recruitment and mortality rates, as well as, changes structure. Knowledge of compositional dynamics can help forest management. The main questions addressed in this study are: Do structural variable in the time? How is dynamic in the community? The present work has been carried out in the primary tropical forest of the Parque Natural Muncipal São Francisco de Assis (about 26 55 S and 49 05 W, 35 to 135 m high), Blumenau, Santa Catarina. The first inventory used 40 parcels of 10 m x 25 m (1 ha). The diameter of individuals with BHD (breast hight diameter) 4,8 cm was measured at a height of 1.3 m and plant material was collected to identification. The second inventory was carried in the same area of the first inventory. Field data were used to estimate: frequency, density, absolute dominance, importance value, Shannons diversity index, evenness, rare species, growth, mortality and recruitment rates. The tree was separate by size classes in the first inventory. The composition floristic, in the first inventory, 1689 trees of 111 species and 39 families was sampled. In the second inventory, 1695 trees of 106 species and 39 families. The values of the diversity index (2,87 nats.indivíduo-1 in the 1999 and 2,77 nats.indivíduo-1 in the 2004) and evenness (0,608 in the 1999 and 0,594 in the 2004) did not differ significantly during the studied period. Most species were found in both inventories, except for Alchornea glandulosa, Eugenia catharinensis, Inga luschnathiana, Inga sessilis, Machaerium stipitatum e Miconia eichleri that dwose not detected in 2004. One new species was registered, Calyptranthes eugeniopsoides. There was a reduction of 1,5 m2.ha-1 in and increasing 0,5% in the tree density. The alteration in basal area differed significantly during the studied period (c2=0,61, p<0,01), however, the tree density did not differ (t test, p>0,01). The diameter distribution showed a reversed J shape. The structure of a tropical forest during a period of 5 years (1999-2004) was constant density, but there was alteration in the basal area. The growth rate for the community was 5,17cm. The mortality and recruitment rates, respectively, in the community for the period 1999-2004 was 1,344 %.ano-1 and 1,35%.ano-1. The changes more expressive was reduction in the basal area, this change for reason high mortality of same species. The finite rate of natural growth (lambda) was 1,0007
