RESUMO

The subject of this work is the dimensioning of link capacity for networks with integrated services (e.g., voice, video and data). Different types of services demand distinct levels of QoS (Quality of Service) - such as delay, jitter and packet loss ratio - which must be provided by the network. In this sense, two methods for link capacity calculation are proposed, both of them using packet average delay and packet loss ratio QoS parameters. For the first method, the scheduler forwards the packets stored in a size-limited FIFO buffer, with no distinction among the packets. The second method consists of a priority scheme among the packets, i.e., the packets are placed into a size-limited buffer and the scheduler forwards them according to a previously defined priority. Additionally, a software package was developed as an aiding tool for the dimensioning. The main features of this software are interactivity and automation of the complex calculus originated by the proposed methodology.
