RESUMO

The aim of this work is to investigate how the generating source of sustainable competitive advantage of a company - staff and their performance - are directly linked to the training as a result of the certification processes. The research focuses on the certification by the NBR ISO 9000 series standards that were already implemented and investigates the necessary actions to meet the foundations of the PNQ - Prêmio Nacional da Qualidade (National Quality Award ) that deal with the Knowledge Management . The choice for this focus was made at a moment in which society and human resourse beings are living through a sui generis period where culture is being constantly changed in a way that alters all the current paradigms. These deep changes radically affect the dynamics of both people and companies. Globalisation has been the drive of these changes and, according to IANNI (2001: p. 23) it "is not a finished fact, but an ongoing processo It faces obstacles, is interrupted but generalises and déepens itself as a trend". The same author says that "Here history starts: A global society rather than national societies". (2001: p. 35)
