RESUMO

Four assays were carried out at Animal Sciences Department of the Universidade Federal de Viçosa to determine the apparent metabolizable energy (AME) and nitrogen corrected apparent metabolizable energy (AMEn) of ten feedstuffs for poultry at different poultry ages. The feedstuffs studied were: corn grain, soybean meal, ground sorghum, wheat bran, integral rice bran, two kinds of feather meal, two kinds of poultry viscera meal and spray-dried plasma. The method of total excreta collection was used to determine the value os AME and AMEn. The treatments were the ten feedstuffs studied and one ration reference. The broiler chicks were distributed on completely randomized experimental design, with 11 treatments, 6 repetitions, with differents numbers of animals by repetition according with assay. In the first assay, it was used 528 broiler chicks males in the period of 10 to 17 days of age, with 8 animals by repetition. In the second assay, it was used 396 broiler chicks males in the period of 26 to 33 days of age, with 6 animals by repetition. In the third assay it was used 264 broiler chicks males in the period of 40 to 47 days of age, with 4 animals by repetition. In the fourth assay it was used 132 roosters, with 2 animals by repetition. The AME and AMEn values (kcal/kg), expressed as fed basis, determined with broiler chicks in the period of 10 to 17 days of age were, respectively: 3167 and 3168 for corn grain; 1759 and 1748 for soybean meal; 2738 and 2732 for ground sorghum; 1588 and 1579 for wheat bran; 2111 and 2105 for integral rice bran; 3889 and 3860 for poultry viscera meal 1; 3992 and 3959 for poultry viscera meal 2; 2633 and 2607 for feather meal 1; 2627 and 2599 for feather meal 2, and 2805 and 2776 for spray-dried plasma. The AME and AMEn values (kcal/kg), expressed as fed basis, determined with broiler chicks in the period of 26 to 33 days of age were, respectively: 3144 and 3135 for corn grain; 2206 and 2192 for soybean meal; 3019 and 3012 for ground sorghum; 1624 and 1621 for wheat bran; 2143 and 2137 for integral rice bran; 3924 and 3891 for poultry viscera meal 1; 3854 and 3822 for poultry viscera meal 2; 3071 and 3039 for feather meal 1; 3274 and 3237 for feather meal 2, and 3652 and 3610 for spray-dried plasma. The AME and AMEn values (kcal/kg), expressed as fed basis, determined with broilers in the period of 40 to 47 days of age were, respectively: 3390 and 3389 for corn grain; 2247 and 2236 for soybean meal; 3091 and 3088 for ground sorghum; 1739 and 1738 for wheat bran; 2047 and 2047 for integral rice bran; 4024 and 3992 for poultry viscera meal 1; 3863 and 3837 poultry viscera meal 2; 3166 and 3128 for feather meal 1; 3391 and 3347 for feather meal 2, and 3505 and 3461 for spray-dried plasma. The AME and AMEn values (kcal/kg), expressed as fed basis, determined with roosters were, respectively: 3371 and 3364 for corn grain; 2165 and 2153 for soybean meal; 3303 and 3296 for ground sorghum; 1925 and 1921 for wheat bran; 2615 and 2611 for integral rice bran; 4039 and 4009 for poultry viscera meal 1; 3896 e 3874 for poultry viscera meal 2; 3247 and 3216 for feather meal 1; 3239 and 3209 for feather meal 2 , and 2982 and 2962 for spray-dried plasma.
