RESUMO

This dissertation presents the survey of fatigue strength limit for samples with and without welding, that were constructed of low carbon steel for pressure vessels. The e samples were calculated through the Finite Element Method, where the g in each model, that represents a sample, it corresponds to the displacement fatigue test machine and measured through dial indicator. The Geometric or Hot Spot Stress Approach was used for stress calculation in the failure area, in other words, at the weld toe. The finite element model validation for welded sample was made through the comparison with strain gages results. It was also evaluated s, for a welded sample, submitted to a loading dose to the fatigue strength limit. The results obtained for the fatigue resistance limit were compared with the theoretical values, and also with some published data for similar materials.
