RESUMO

Obesity is a chronic metabolic disturb of multiple ethiology and a high prevalence worldwide. It is also associated to several diseases. One type of non-pharmachological treatment of obesity is the physical exercise. Although many researchers have been performed in animal models, there is a lack in the literature of studies analyzing aerobic capacity assessment protocols in obese animals, such as the mice with a mutation in the leptin gene (ob/ob). Objectives: o verify the possibility of determining the lactate threshold (LT) on swimming in ob/ob mice and in non-obese heterozygote mice (ob/OB), through the methods of visual inspection (LTv) and polynomial adjustment (LTp) and to verify if the LT determined through these protocols corresponds to the maximal lactate steady-state (MLSS). Methods: 18 mice were compraised two groups: aged ob/ob and aged ob/OB, and were submitted to an incremental test (IT) and to rectangular sessions to determine the MLSS. The LTv and LTp were determined from the IT. To MLSS identification, a variation in bLac of no more than 0.05mmol.min-1 was used. Results: The protocols allowed the identification of the LT in the studied groups. There were no intra-group differences between the LTv, LTp and MLSS (aged ob/ob: ~5.3%BW; aged ob/OB: ~3.6%BW), with a high agreement among the protocols. Conclusion: It was possible to identify the LTv and LTp on swimming in ob/ob and ob/OB mice. The exercise intensity correspondent to LLv and LLp showed an agreement with MLSS, with no intra-group different between the protocols for %BW. It is suggested that these protocols mau be used in new researches on the effects of different exercise intensities relative to LT and some aspects of obesity.
