RESUMO

Rotating machines are subjected to many dynamical effects. In certain situations it is desirable to decrease the leveI of vibration, so that the structure that supports it will not be damaged, to improve the performance, or to reduce the noise. This work deals with the study of the introduction of passive damping in rotating machines with the purpose of reducing its energy levels, and therefore decrease its vibration levels. An analysis of the existing criteria for non-rotating machines is done, and then one of these is adapted to rotating systems. During this work it is determined how the physical parameters of the system affect the value of damping to be introduced and the behaviour of this system under the effect of this damping, by looking at the variation of the stored energy and the response in the time domain. At the end a solution for a real problem is suggested: a system excited by unbalance forces
