Desenvolvimento territorial, história, cultura e tradição : os caminhos do café em Alto Paraíso (GO)

RESUMO

This study aims to examine how the inhabitants of Alto Paraíso de Goias are seeking alternatives to generate income and sustainable development of the municipality. To do so, it makes the analysis from the deployment, by Embrapa, of a specific project on the rescue of traditional agricultural culture of coffee. The municipality is part of the region of the Chapada dos Veadeiros and has trajectory of searching for productive activities that add income to itspopulation. From colonization in the eighteenth century, the mining and agricultural and livestock activities were the ones that most developed in the region until its productive vocation was transformed in the early 1960, with the creation of the National Park of the Chapada dos Veadeiros and the inauguration of Brasilia, starting up the exploitation of tourism. Begining in 2000, the flow of tourists dropped due to problems related to public health, resulting in the stagnation of the local economy and shortage of financial resources. From the juncture of diversification of the market, family producers woken up to the existence, in their land, of a coffee that can be sold in niche markets for specialty coffees, such as organic and of definite origin. And sought, in Embrapa, the development of project on the deployment of organic coffee for family farming. This research was supported in view of the technic and methodology of Anthropology, which has the lines conducting the requirement of the fieldwork and analysis of the case. The results revealed that from the unveil of values, represented by the history, culture and traditions of the region, it is possible to establish a more efficient strategy for picking up market for coffee from the experience revealed in their own specific job and the culture of the producers. And that rural development in the region must be sought from the development of activities of the new rurality and the implementation of a territorial approach of development in order to enhance local skills through the integration of the municipalities that make up the territory.
