RESUMO

Bisphenol A (BPA) is widespread used as a monomer in the fabrication of polycarbonate an and epoxide resins. Polycarbonate, in turn, is used in a wide array of plastics products and its release into the environment mainly occurs during manufacturing. The proposed method in this study was applied satisfactorily to the determination and quantification of this compound in natural waters by using Solid Phase Extraction (SPE), derivatization with trifluoroacetic acid anhydride - TFAA and analysis by Gas Chromatography coupled with Mass Spectrometry. The analytic curve calibration was linear with a correlation coefficient of (R) >0,999 in the range of 5 50 pg. mL-1. The average recoveries of BPA in natural waters sample spiked with 5, 15 and 25 pg. VL-1 were 83, 93 and 105% respectively. The retention time was 11.75 min for BPA derivatized with TFAA and the detection limit and the quantification limit to those samples were 1.5 and 5.0 pg. VL-1 (ppb), respectively. The results obtained suggested that BPA could be easily detected and quantified in natural waters samples, by using the proposed method that was selective, accurate and precise.
