RESUMO

This work presents the development of a Geographic Information System on the Web (WebGIS), called here as Map Server System. This system makes use of Web characteristics, such as visual and interactive resources, and the architecture client/server promoting communication with a geocoded database. This work presents a general view of the geoprocessing area, basic notions involving WebGIS and low cost technologies (open source) necessary to implement the system. In order to develop and implement the system, the following technologies were used: the architecture standard Model-View-Controller (MVC), servlet, JSP, API JDBC, JavaBeans, SVG and Java Script, and the Object-Relational Database Management System PostgreSQL with a spatial PostGIS extension
