RESUMO

This work presents the development of a capacitive tomography system to the study of multiphase processes. The research starts with a literature review about tomography. A finite element analysis is accomplished to offer data for the optimization of the capacitance sensor and for a comparative analysis with the experimental results. The image reconstruction of several flow patterns in the numerical ana1ysis through the linear-back-projection method asserts the adaptability of various parameters which have contributed to the quality of the images, attesting its application in the experimental procedures. The e1ectronic part of the tomographic system inc1udes a capacitance transducer associated to a signal multiplex circuitry, controlled by computer. The capacitance sensor consists of eight electrodes mounted circunferentially around a perspex pipe. The void fraction is obtained through an electromechanical device. The quality of the reconstructed images of experimental data in air-water, air-nylon and water-nylon compositions, for several different void fractions, attests the validity of the developed tomographic system
