RESUMO

The fishery industry represents great importance, because it contributes for the nutritional needs fulfillment by offering consumer market food with high nutritional value, it provides jobs and generates financial resources. In Brazil, in order to cause the activity to grow and it becomes more competitive it should overcome challenges and attend the current consumer demand, even more selective and attentive concerning the criteria of food quality and security and to the socioenvironmental impacts caused by the companies activities. The Integrated Management System (IMS), according to ISO 22000, OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001 and SA 8000 norms, forms an important tool for the food safety management, occupational safety and health and of the generated impacts in environment and society, contributing for the sustainable development of its activities. The aim of this piece of work was developing a model for implantation of IMS by fishery industries. For the construction of this model, it was taken three main steps. The first constitutes in the reference norms analysis and in the elements and procedures direction, properly linked, like the model basis. There were also other referentials observed, developed by excellence institutions and added requirements as desirable complements. The second step was the fishery companies analysis with the IMS, situated in the Iberian Peninsula, for the identification of crucial factors for the its management systems implement and how they were coped. We tried to demonstrate along these companies, their best practices related to the management systems adopted, as well as the resulted benefits. The third step taken was the evaluation of a fishery company located in Brazil, without implement management systems. Just as the other companies, this evaluation aimed the characterization of their socio-environmental and food security practices, and also the model draw close with the companys reality as well as its applicability observation. The results showed as main critical factors for the IMS implementation: the interpretation of the technical rules and its specificity, the human resources and understanding and perception elements. Considering that SA 8000 and some included requirements in the model bears on human resources increase in value, and that the proposed model provides in itself the norms interpretation, applying them to the fishery sector, it can be concluded that the suggested model has potential for the observed critical factors dealing. The Brazilian company analysis suggests that there are future actions conditions for the IMS implementation and that, the model can assist not only the analysed enterprise, but also other companies. Similar to this one, they can understand the importance and present commitment with the sustainable development.
