RESUMO

The coating of solids particles has the most important application in controlled release technical. Needing to suppress agglomeration is among determination of process conditions that attend requirement to production capsules with characteristics required for protection or controlled release. The purpose of this work is joining the requirements of process that suppress aggregation up to review and elaborate equations that determine process conditions. Agglomeration can be suppressed basically by determination of suitable total fluidization flow rate that provide particles agitation and still the determination of suitable liquid flow rate that in the process temperature does not elevate a lot the sticking of the coating material. The fluid dynamic characteristic that suppresses agglomeration was found in a flow pattern that is called here spout-fluidized state (EJF) that consists in a stable spout with intense fluidization in annular zone found from a specific procedure. Approaching determination of operation condition from EJF is not found in bibliography. Some equations that relate the EJF variables was suggest to determinate the total fluidization air velocity, the maximum partition gap and pressure drop of dragging and annular zones. These equations was tested in scale up was made after building of one coater apparatus that support EJF properties and still dispose of versatility for the coating process analysis. Only the total air fluidization velocity equation was reproduced in scale up. The operation coating liquid flow rate is up to the fluidization tolerance at viscosity of coating material that has just aggregation indicated by the pressure drop of annular zone on kind of built apparatus.
