RESUMO

This work was developed to characterize the effect of different controlled rolling conditions upon the microstructure and mechanical properties of two high strength low alloy steels, equivalent to the HY-80 alloy, but that do not need to be submitted to a quenching and tempering heat treatment. The first alloy hardens through copper precipitation (HSLA-80), while the second one has extra-Iow carbon content and bainitic microstructure (ULCB). In the first rolling test series total strain applied to the specimens was varied, while in the second one the effect of several finishing temperatures was studied. All HSLA-80 rolled samples were additionally aged. It was verified that the most important controlled rolling parameter was the total strain applied to the specimens, which strongly influenced all mechanical properties, except ductility and yield ratio of the ULCB alloy. The austenitizing temperature only influenced the tensile strength of both steels. For its turn, the finish rolling temperature significantIy influenced their toughness
