RESUMO

Despite the undeniable importance of family agriculture in the Brazilian rural production, the governmental policy for rural development has not given the necessary attention to this segment. However there are great perspectives for the construction of a new sustainable rural development model. This model of development shall promote the revalorization of the rural Brazil and especially of family farming, a sector of great expression in the national economy. However, a change in the extension of governmental policy, rural assistance and research is necessary in the way of granting the needs and resources to the segment of family farming, in order to make the activities feasible and to providing enough income for a dignified farm life. Being so, milk production plays an important role because it s the most representative of the activities in terms of income to the farm families corresponding to 13.3% of the gross value of their total production. Due to this fact, the: Implantation, Follow up and farming technology evaluation in family farms with milk production project, developed by EMBRAPA cattle raising technicians, in the properties of family farms in the region of São Carlos, State of São Paulo and Muriaé, State of Minas Gerais. The socio-economic results were assessed in order to characterize the family production units, the intervention method and the adopted methodology by EMBRAPA technicians, as well as evaluating the changes in the technical and economical indexes after adopting the proposed technology. In the first stage of the project the questionnaire that was initially applied by the EMBRAPA technicians was analyzed, seeking to delineate the initial conditions in which the milk producers found themselves in prior to the period of intervention. In the second stage another questionnaire was applied to measure the changes occurred in the property. According to attained results, It could be conclude that the producers involved in this study presented an alternative operating system called ?Modern Family Agriculture". The adoption of adequate technology adapted to the reality of each producer in general caused a positive effect providing by the end of the Project an average increase in the annual milk production of 31% in Muriaé and 30% in São Carlos, and an increase of the total income of 91% and of 50% respectively, confirming the feasibility of family milk production as well as the efficacy of the methodology adopted in the project.
