RESUMO

The aim of this research was the studying of the effect of chemical additives (lime, Portland cement and sodium silicate) on soil in order to obtain compressed soil bricks and prismatic mini panels constructed with such a material being their physical and mechanical characteristics determined in laboratory conditions and its behavior evaluated through the association of destructive and non-destructive methods. The cement and lime contents in the soil-additives mixtures were 0%, 6% and 10%, and the sodium silicate dosage was 4%. For this purpose a sandy soil and a clayey one were utilized being the samples submitted to preliminary testing in according to Brazilian regulations. After molding, the cylindrical specimens were cured in a humidity chamber for 7, 28 and 56 days before being submitted to ultrasonic and compression tests as well as to water absorption test. The compressed soil bricks and the prismatic mini panels were also cured in a humidity chamber for 7, 28, 56 and 91 days before being tested to the same assays applied to cylindrical specimens. Each one of the prismatic mini panel was constructed with four layers of compressed bricks. The thermal conductivity and the specific heat were determined according to ASTM C177/97 and ASTM C351/92b norms respectively, being the data for thermal conductivity achieved through a guarded hot plate apparatus and the data for specific heat through a calorimeter device.
