RESUMO

Forage production for animal feeding is an activity which may determine the success of livestock raising. The forage produced must have quality and quantity. A known option of plant to be utilized as a roughage is corn, however in the region of the South of Minas Gerais, research utilizing this material for forage production are still incipient. Some factors such as plant arrangement in the area and the canopy of the employed may determine yield and quality of the forage produced. The objective of this work was to investigate the behavior of corn hybrids of different leaf canopies, submitted to two interrow spacings and two population densities in two years cropping. The design utilized in one experiment (spacings) was that of randomized blocks in 3x2 factorial scheme to evaluate the performances of three hybrids (AG1051, AG 9010, DKB440) and two plant densities (55,000 and 75,000 plants. ha-1). All the agronomic variables evaluated, with exception of grain weight, underwent effect of the factors cultivars, densities, spacings and years. The cultivars presented influence of spacing, density and year and from most of the variables surveyed. Both forage dry matter (DM) and grain yield proved superior when interrow 0.7 m spacing adopted. In the same way, these two characteristics also proved superior at the density of 75,000 plants.ha-1. DM yield was superior in the second year of experimentation, however, grain yield underwent no effect of years. The bromatologic characteristics did not undergo any influence of the factors density and spacing. For those characteristics, the cultivars did not go through influence of spacing and years.
