RESUMO

This dissertation evaluates, from the theorical proposals presented by the North American historian Dominick LaCapra, possibilities of analysis of the classic works of Samuel Ramos and Sergio Buarque de Holanda, published in middle of the decade of 1930. Having as a main objective to verify respectively in which forms El perfil del hombre y la cultura em México and Raízes do Brasil they approach, consider and give meanings for the concept of iberismo, my work is divided in three main parts: (1) a sketch of the authors proposals, that matches to the probable ethodological references that were used in the specific elaboration of these books, as well as the most current interpretations of the presented concepts; (2) a sketch concerning the proposals contained there concerning politicianeconomic and partner-cultural aspects of Mexico and Brazil from the beginnings of the 20th century, matching to authors who had later dedicated themselves to the treatment of the same reality; (3) a sketch much more properly focused in the intellectual universe in which the texts are both inserted, as much in view of the perspectives in contained in them, as much as the perspectives presented by more recent researchers. The intention is, therefore, to consider that iberismo necessarily varies according to the interpretation model of which it takes, establishing more than just a concept, but a complex, plural and indeterminate game of understanding, valuations and projects that became from the idea of cultural inheritance to us americans bequeathed by Spain and Portugal, since the period of the colonization
