RESUMO
It s presented the first translation from latim into portuguese of the preface and the first book of Andrea Cesalpino s De Plantis-libri XVI, published in 1583. Notes are included. Considering that this book is rare and is a landmark in botanical history and philosophy, it is presented also a introductory study conceming the life and works of Cesalpino, as well as the philosophy used by him for the introduction ofbotany into the world of science
