RESUMO
This study focuses on modern dance for physically disable people, a modality in expansion in Brazil and in the world, with the objective of discussing and justifying it as an area of knowledge of Physical Education and Dance. The aims of this research are: (1) to know the meaning of dance to physically disable people (pdtp) through the sense-relationships determined by on-verbal languages, (2) to understand dance in systems of significance, having as mean of expression the body in movement, (3) to know the contribution of dance in wheel chairs for the group studied. The first chapters give a historical vision on the carrier of disability and on dance, in order to establish the relationship between deficiency-body-culture-dance. The theory of Rudolf Von Laban is emphasized, especially its influence on studies of dance in wheel chairs. The concept and methodology of dance for pdp are discussed using as reference the ISOD -International Sports Orgnization for the Disabled - based in the city on Munich, Germany, the Very Special Art - a non-governammental association that stimulates, promotes and divulges the artistic production handicapped persons, based in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and several independent group affiliated to Universities, Associations and Municipal City Halls in the country...
