RESUMO

The current dissertation has examined connections among culture, politics and market in the State of Bahia, having as a temporal horizon some phenomena which have occurred for the last decades in our State, such as changes in the field of contemporary cultural creation and production. The research has been based on two areas of analysis: 1) the comprehension of the relevance given to political and economical fields in the configuration that the culture has acquired since the twentieth century; 2) the comprehension of the changes occurred in the field of public management of culture, guided by the intersection between entertainment and culture, politics and economy, which is becoming more and more present having as the object of analysis the creation of Secretaria da Cultura e Turismo do Estado da Bahia . The results of this investigation have made possible to conclude that, when prioritizing the agendas in the areas of culture and tourism, the enterprise of the political group, led by the Brazilian Senator Antonio Carlos Magalhães, was aware of the growing demand for cultural properties, a phenomena which has occurred in global scale. The basis of this enterprise was the adoption of vast intervention in the fields of cultural creation and production, centered in the celebration of singularity and diversity of the local identity as an element of symbolic distinction.
