RESUMO

The Psychiatric Reformation has its focus the modification in the attendance to the carrier of mental upheaval - CMU, considering as its basis the desinstitutionalization, the multiprofessional attendance and the familiar enrollment. The present research, based in these new paradigms, where the familiar relations get evidenced as protagonists of this process, objectives to know and to analyze the function, attributions and responsibilities of the care givers of the CMU and the reflexes in its daily life. The researching space is the Regional Hospital Vale do Ivaí, located in Jandaia do Sul - PR, a philanthropic institution of attendance to the people with mental and alcooholic diseases. The subjects of the research are the family members that have been following the CMU with schizophrenia diagnosis at least for five years, for this disease being the biggest dependence of cares. For the collection of data, 8 (eight) care givers of the CMU were interviewed, when they went to the Hospital to visit their CMU relative interned. The half-structuralized interviews had guided the analysis of data in three ways: The family who takes care; the daily life related the carrier of mental troubles; e the care and the standing by.
