RESUMO

Chrysotile reacted covalently with aminopropyl- and ethylenediamino- trimethoxysilane organosilanes involving the silane methoxy group and hhdroxyls of magnesium hydroxide. The modified fibers interacted subsequently with 2-pyridine and 2-thiophene carboxaldehydes, favoring the entrance of new basic centers easier. Modified magnesium phyllosilicates containig aminopropyl, ethylenediamino, diethylenetriamino and mercaptopropyl were synthetized through sol gel process and used in the adsorption of copper, nickel, zinc, and cobalt cations from aqueous solution. The interactive processes were monitored by calorimetric titration, suggesting two reaction mechanisms: ion exchange involving magnesium cation and interlayer complexes formation...
