RESUMO

From the introduction by Freud of the notion of countertransference, a prospect of the developed contributions is presented by some relevant authors. The differences encountered about this notion are many, as well as its implications in the clinic. We examine in which way the concept of countertransference could be articulated to the auto-analysis idea. In such a way, we search in the history of psychoanalysis to trace Freud`s experience, as well as selecting the relation that have been established with his friend Fliess at the time when it is absolutely associated with the auto-analysis idea. From that, it is important to position the limits as well as the efectiveness and the value that can be attributed to the autoanalysis activity. We conclude that the auto-analysis can be considered a useful tool for the analyst to examine countertransference and, therefore, it is an auxiliary tool that suports the position of the analyst.
