RESUMO

This research is related to the field of Research, Procedures and Pedagogical Methods. Its objective is to analyze the academic education of the Accountancy undergraduate student in Vale do Itapocu, from their expectations and the ones of the business people in the accounting field, as well as verify which benefits the continuous expansion of the private Academic Education will provide for this category of professionals. This research starts in the beginning of the College Education in Brazil, and in this context the creation of the Accountancy School and its evolution through the years up to nowadays. It continues with a short presentation of the events that led to the current situation of College Education, mainly Accountancy, which led the researcher to the issues presented in this research and its objectives. Having this in mind, this research has been divided into the four following sections: From Accountant Professors to Professor Accountants: in which an investigation about the origin of Accountancy was conducted, as well as its several evolutional stages, where its main contributions to society stand out. A scenario of Researches on College Education and Accountancy Teaching: in which a gathering on academic productions on similar topics was made. An Overview on the Accountants Academic Development: this section consists of a series of data gathered in the cities belonging to the region of Vale do Itapocu, focus of this research; the number of Accountancy Courses and Schools in Brazil; the number of accountants in Brazil, in the States of Santa Catarina, and in the previously mentioned region, as well as the gathering of other issues that were considered to be relevant to build the current scenario, including surveys with students, professors, and businesspeople in the field, aiming at knowing their realities and opinions. At last, the final considerations, where the questions raised in the research are answered. This research is quantity and quality based regarding fieldwork data analysis, which constitutes the main point to answer the questions raised. According to these points, the final conclusion was elaborated, which aims to contribute to researches in other fields
