RESUMO

Today, Brazil faces a large economic growth and as a consequence it has provided the growth of civil construction. In this context, buildings need to be implemented in a more agile way with reduction and elimination of waste and work scrap, and the products selection suitable for its intended use. Pressured by globalization and market requirements, steel mills try to promote and stimulate the growth of metal construction generated mainly by technological evolution, launching new steel on the market that add value to the work by its functional performance as well as new features at a proportional cost due to its quality. Thus, the steel construction culture has lived great challenges: the global competitiveness of products, services and prices; shortage of local labor due to a new map of migration throughout the country; demands of higher qualification of constructors and their collaborators in process and management areas; the gradual reduction and conventional material substitution and also craft used; the pressures of institutions and organs of law and consumer protection and environment, among others. The resumption of good development prospects of the country, supported by sporting events, the pre-salt, the shipbuilding industry also reflects in the state of Minas Gerais, in particular the region called Vale do Aço, a region that continuously receives professional immigrants who find there area for personal and professional growth. Therefore, this study aims at presenting the evolution of culture of steel use in the region of Vale do Aço and an inventory of works structured by existing steel, describing the predictive pathological issues. Some case studies of local constructions were analyzed, highlighting new ways to design and build. In these case studies, the definition of their implantation area, the compatibility methods of construction systems, the respective typological peculiarities and acceptability of these buildings are made explicit. By the great diversity of ways and specifications offered by steel, the number of construction is increasing, considering that its use make possible to associate productivity, agility and low environmental impact. Steel use, in constructions, today is to guarantee sustainability in present and future.
