Construção do espaço virtual na Internet : Como as pessoas se localizam em ambientes de chat

RESUMO

The objective of this work is to explain the construction of virtual space on the Internet, specifically in chat environments, from a psychology social-cultural approach. Following this approach, virtual space was understood as a relational space in continuous transformation, in which people locate each other in a computer environment. In this study, chats are defined as resources on the Internet, which make the synchronous communication possible among people. After investigations concerning the socio-cultural approach, the dialectical materialism, linguistic studies and practices in chats, an analysis unit was built, named intercalation of virtual space marks. It involves localization elements (with deitic function), interaction sequences (message sequences that make the construction of virtual space possible) and is associated with the transformations of users expectations and assumptions in the chat activity. The analysis was made with planned activities (academic meetings in Virtus system, on-line interviews and support services in UOL Websi e) and in chats without planned activities (meetings in Terra, mIRC, Paltalk and Yahoo Messenger systems). The analysis defined seven categories in respect to the psychological strategies of the construction of the virtual space by the users of the systems (connection, engagement, emergency, maintenance, disengagement and disconnection). Some conclusions of the analysis are: the psychological strategies of the users make possible them enter, stay and leave virtual space by means of deitic elements in relation to the movements virtual-physical and virtual-virtual; the deitic elements have proper functions in each category and chats with and without planned activities define the construction of virtual space as the kind of activity. Other contributions of this work, beyond the analysis of construction of virtual space, are the theoretical investigations to the study of socio-cultural approach in basis of dialectical materialism foundations, the understanding of how specific environments as those with educational activities have their own spaces and the comprehension of the computational environments interface in use by observation of the process of virtual space construction
