Considerações medicamentosas no tratamento odontologico cirurgico do paciente idoso

RESUMO

This prospective study had the objective to evaluate the answer of 100 elderly patients who were undergone to surgical procedures under local anesthesia with age equal or superior to 60 years in the Operating Room of FOP Unicamp and Navy Central Dental Odontoclinic, correlating: 1) with the existence of previous diseases 2) medication used for their treatment, with the possibility of drug interactions with pharmacons used during and atter the surgery and 3) with possible peri and post-operative complications. The statistical analysis of the obtained data revealed cardiovascular diseases (64%), nervous system diseases (33%), digestive system diseases (20%), osseo-articulated diseases (19%), genitourinary diseases (7%), cancer (5%) and problems in the breathing system (4%). It was noted an average consumption of 1,94 medicine/day per elderly patient, drug interactions and adverse reactions were not observed. There were two cases of medicine committement, 96 cases of self-medication (60% of the patients) and 10 cases that probably influenced in the trans and post-operative intercurrences, in which nine were of continuous used drugs (captopril, ginkgo biloba and acetaminophen) and one case of self-medication (sildenafil). The incidence of trans-operative intercurrences was of 6%: arterial hypertension (2 cases), angina (1 case), hemorrhage (1 case) and lipotimia (2 cases). It was found 12% of post-operative intercurrences: alveolitis (4 cases), hiperalgesia (4 cases), and depression (1 case). Five patients were not submitted to the surgical procedures because of pre-existent diseases estability. With the results, it was concluded that the elderly patient presented a good organic answer to the surgical procedure after a detailed clinical exam
