RESUMO

Introduction: Despite several studies have shown that the delay in diagnosis of endometriosis is long and it occurs mostly due to the physician retard in indicating a diagnostic procedure, until these days surveys have been conducted only with patients. Objective: To describe the current attitude utilized by gynaecologists from SOGESP (Sao Paulo State Obstetrics and Gynaecologists Association) to establish the diagnosis of endometriosisin woman with infertility, dysmenorrhoea and/or chronic pelvic pain. Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional study, in which a questionnaire was sent to ali gynaecologists members of SOGESP. Results: A total of 1660 replieswere received(31,8%). Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that physicians who stated that endometriosis can affect women at ali age ranges was the variable significantly associated with suspicion of endometriosis in less than 12 months in case of ali complaints: infertility (OR = 1.81, 95,% CI1.01-3.22), dysmenorrhoea (OR = 2.16,95% CI1.18-3.93) and chronic pelvic pain (CPP) (OR = 2.17,95% CI 1.17-4.00). This time to diagnosis was also lower in those who participate in congressesand attend talks on Endoscopic Gynaecology and Endometriosis, when the complaint is dysmenorrhoea (OR =1.33, 95% CI1.05-1.69) and CPP (OR =1.51, 95% CI1.19-1.91). Conclusions: Our study sugests that gynaecologists that suspect earlier about endometriosis are those wich are the more informed ones, so we should stimulate professional education
