CONCEPÇÃO, PROJETO E ANÁLISE GEOTÉCNICA DA BARRAGEM DE CONTENÇÃO DE REJEITOS AURÍFEROS DE CALCINADOS

RESUMO

The aims of this paper are establishing the global evaluation of the stability conditions and the control systems; monitoring the Calcine Dam designed for accumulating tailings gold after the roasting process by contrasting the original design (center line raise) to the current design (downstream raise); and showing the main advantages and disadvantages gained with the original design modifications. The Calcine Dam belongs to Anglogold Ashanti Mineração Ltda and it is located in Nova Lima, Minas Gerais, Brazil. At first, we made a data search on the procedures and criterions adopted for the dam design development and also for its construction, evaluating the operation conditions of the piezometers installed in the wall. The wall stability analysis has been made considering the normal operations conditions and some simulations had been made aiming the stability during the dam shutting. The SLOPE/W program was used for these analysis adopting the geothecnics obtained from the laboratory tests made in 1994, eight years after the wall construction where cicloned tailings were used. The input items for stability analysis were taken allowing a freatic line to be coincident with a piezometric line obtained by the installation of monitor instruments. The results show that for the current operation conditions a rather comfortable stability condition but they also show that in the future, more work will be necessary to maintain a satisfactory scenario. This study reassured the efficiency of the piezometry instruments as well as the internal drainage system, which is very good for stabilizing the dam. Furthermore, it suggests a control system, which is based on Risk Letter and set up in value references enabling piezometrics reading.The methodology proposed is appropriate for the dam studied and should be implemented in the other tailing structures from the Group Anglogold Ashanti in South America.
