RESUMO

The JaboatÃo river possesses an area of drainage of 413,1km and an extension of 75km. With the objective of verifying the concentration of heavy metals and of trace elements deposited the last years two sections were made at two places of his flood plain, distant to 100 and 800m (places 1 and 2, respectively) of the margin of the river, and collected eight samples soil approximately the 25, 55, 80 and 100cm of depth, for determination of granulometry and of concentration of organic matter, heavy metals and of trace elements. The analyses evidenced that the place 1 the concentration of heavy metals and of trace elements following the same pattern of distribution of the organic matter and of the fraction silt/clay, suggesting that the organic matter is one of the factors that you/they probably control the distribution of the elements in the flood plain. Four different patterns from distribution of the elements were observed: group 1 (Ba) with increase of the concentration in agreement with the increase of the depth; group 2 (Ag, As, Cd and Mo) with insignificant variations in their concentration in the two places, independent of granulometry or concentration of organic matter; 3 (Co, Cu and Ni) with similar distribution of concentrations in all the section, but differing among the two places; and group 4 (Cr, Pb, V and Zn) with concentrations that tend to decrease with the depth increase to 100m, occuring the opposite for 800m. In relation to the guiding values established by CETESB, was verified that concentration of some elements (also listed in Priority Polluants List for international agencies of environmental control) is greaters that the established ones, turning necessary providences for the improvement of the environmental quality and a biodisponibility study and speciation of the elements, once the plain of flood of the JaboatÃo river is a place used for subsistence agriculture
