RESUMO

The possibility of using solid residues from of the lumber industry and the discarded tires motivated this work of research, which had as objective to evaluate the technological characteristics of two types of reconstituted composites of wood particles in the mixture with particles of rubber tires, with the addition of cement or phenolic resin. Panels were manufactured with these materials, varying the treatments in function of the ratio of rubber tires particles in the mixture (0%, 15%, 30% and 45%). As general results, the composites made with wood, rubber and resin did not present difference in the apparent specific mass with the addition of rubber. The addition of rubber caused a drop in mechanical properties and improvement in the dimensional stability of the panels. Regarding colorimetric characteristics, the rubber addition in the interior of the composite had minor influence in the appearance. The increase in the amount of rubber promoted the improvement of the acoustics of the composite, with potential for application as insulator material. In the cement-woodrubber composites, the addition of rubber led to the reduction of the specific mass, modulus of rupture, modulus of elasticity; Janka hardness, internal bond and resistance to the screw withdrawal; the thickness swelling reduced with the 15% addition and increased with 30% of rubber; the water absorption increased; regarding the colorimetric characteristics, the rubber addition to the composite influenced its appearance.
