RESUMO

The floristics and phytosociological structure of a cerrado área the Estação Experimental de Luís Antônio ( 21 GRAUS 40 S and 47 GRAUS 49 WG) were studied using general botanical collections and a survey of all the individuals with a diameter at soil level equal to, or greater than, 3 cm in 25 regularly distributed 10 x 25 mm plots. The method used appeared to sample the vegetation efficiently, but a number of species were not included in the sample plots. The climate was classified as being "Central Brazilian Tropical, hot and humid, with alternating rainy and dry seasons , according to NIMER S (1979) classification. The average water balance following THORNTHWAITE &MATHER S (1955) method showed a deficit of 56 mm, with storage of 300 mm in the soil from April to September. The climate in the area studied was shown to be less severe than of the typical cerrado areas of Central Brazil. The effects of frosts on the vegetation were observed, and these may act as a limiting factor for the occurrence of some species in colder areas. The soil was a distrophic, strongly acid sandy phase Red-Yellow Latosol, with an Ssdeahk classification with regard to limiting factors for cultivation. This indicates a sandy, dry soil with a low cation exchange capacity, toxic saturation of aluminium, excessive acidity and Potassium deficiency...
