RESUMO
This study investigates the territorial behavior in two species of gerrids, Brachymetra albinerva and B. furva the study was conducted at fazenda santa Eliza , Campinas, S. Paulo from March, 1987 to june, 1989, with B. albinerva and at E.E. da Juréia Iguape, S. Paulo from November, 1987 to august, 1989, with B. furva both species occur at small streams.I have estimated the populational size of both species using the capture- recapture technique i estimated: a) the persitence of individuals at a specific site on the stream, wich was used as an estimative of the duration of time of the territory, that shows the males of B. albinervwa remain in average 14.8 days and for females 14.8 days while in B furva males reamain for 5.1 days and females 4.4 days ; b) their mobility, defined as all the total space the individuals displaced at the stream, shows that males of B. albinerva move in average 24.6 m and females 19.6m; lifetime, wich in males of B. albinerva was 28.1 days and in females 36.7 days and in B furva males it was 12.7 days and in females was 11.2 days; d) the number of mates, in males of B. Albinerva was found to be 3.4 mates and in the females 3.0 mates while in B furva the males was 1.3 mates and females 1.1 mates . Seasonal variation in populational size was also estimated for B. Albinerva using these same procedures.... Note: The complete abstract is available with the full electronic digital thesis or dissertations
