RESUMO

The behavior in stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of ferritic stainless steel AISI 444 welded by MIG process with austenitic stainless steel AISI 316LSi was evaluated. Aqueous solutions containing 1M HCl, pH @ 0,0 at room temperature and 42 weight% of MgCl2 at the boiling temperature (143C) have been employed. The experiments included constant load and constant deformation of the electrode. The systems have been electrochemically characterized through parameters obtained using potenciodynamic polarization. Fracture mechanics methodologies were applied where U-bend specimens and precracked compact type - C(T) - specimens have been used. Their fractographic aspects after SCC were analyzed. It was verified that the material in study was SCC susceptible in both solutions. It was observed that the cracks start from the precrack in the austenitic area and it continues inside the ferritic area. Cleavage was observed in SCC and final rupture area.
