RESUMO

Industrial technological advances, in the last decades, generated the development of high performance and precision machines which, by your turn, have demanded optimized foundation designs. Each time, several trials have to be considered to get a foundation design that conciliates the maximum efficiency with acceptable costs. Finite element modeling is a powerful tool that can be used to better predict the behavior of such structural elements when one compares to the simplified analytical methods, available in the literature, which take into account in their formulation several assumptions, in order to make possible their use. The present research approaches the basic concepts on machine foundation dynamic analysis, argues on some available analytical and numerical design methods and presents some design recommendations and code requirements. Reinforced concrete block foundations for reciprocating and impact machines were analyzed as well as reinforced concrete framed foundations to turbomachines. Natural frequencies and amplitudes from finite element analysis were compared with those obtained through analytical solutions. Additionally, stress resultants and stresses required to detail the reinforcement. Results from finite element analysis showed good agreement with those obtained from analytical methods
