RESUMO
The present work aimed at studying the understanding of Community Education, as a movement that involves both School and Community of São Paulo Municipal Teaching Network Educators, and investigating to what extent a Teacher?s Formation Course contributes to the understanding of the concept and reverts problems faced by the school. In order to reach such purpose a theoretical chart was created with a view t drawing the current picture of Education, a brief historical development of Community Education and the survey of principles that compose the perspective adopted. The investigation method involved a questionnaire issued to 220 individuals, divided into 2 groups: 110 educators who took the Formation Course on the principles of Community Education and 110 educators who did not take any kind of Formation Course on such principles. The questionnaire was about the individuals? understanding about the concept of Community Education, responsibility attribution and alternative suggestions so as to revert the problems faced by public schools. The research results show that the vast majority of individuals articulate school and community, despite the fact that they show a traditional perspective of the Community Education concept. However, educators who took the Formation Course on such principles adopted a transforming perspective of the concept with some interference in their practice
