RESUMO

This rescarch discuss the construction process of the Italian memory and identity, searching to identify as certain expressions propagated for the media articulate meanings and produce feelings that instigate the construction of this identity or memory. The anaiysis of newspapers, magazines, films, soap operas and books disclosed to the calls "Italian things", characteristies that are attributed to the Italians and its descendants and that they finish for definúting the belonging. The first chapter studies the media, mainiy soap operas. This analysis auowed to observe which "Italian" the televising production creates, articulating the contradictions between the historiography and the media. In the second chapter the relation between fiction and reãty presented in the televising productions is discussed. lt is tried to discover untü point is possibie to discern what it is fiction and what it is reality, therefore even so the dramaturgo is understood as ifiction, aU the moment it assumes of historical facts and real situations to compose the narrative. Also it was looked to estabfish relations with didactic books of Basic Education and Hgh School, that present information next to the scenes and speak of the personages of the soap operas. The third chapter consists of discovering as if it constructs a Italian. lt was searched in speaks of ánrnigrants descendants, by means of interviews, and also in the magazine discourses, the expressions that disciose to the feclings of belonging and recognition. The interviewed disciose what they consider as Italian and in which attributes they support to identify them or not as Italian, although being Brazilian.
